I won free tickets to a preview for this movie, I wanted to see it anyway so they were just an added bonus. I was expecting a thriller type drama but it turned out to be more of a drama than a thriller. It is about a young teenage girl named Suzie Salmon who is brutally murdered by a serial killer neighbor. Suzie doe not pass over she goes to this inbetween world where she can watch and sometimes interact with the living. The focus is on her family and what the effect of this murder has on them and specifically her father who does not give up on the hunt for her killer.
I understood it was an interpretation of a book which apparently was very sad; but I thought it was a little bit too much fantasy and spent too much time focusing on the girl who had died and the world in which she later resided in her afterlife and I think Peter Jackson could have made it more interesting if he had focused on the killer and his obsessions on young girls, previous murders he had committed and his plan to eventually murder Suzie’s younger sister.
Overall a good drama, a little too long for the story and a little too wishy washy to be called a thriller.
